Jolly Cream of Mushroom Meatball Pasta

Few more days ’til Christmas…still can’t decide on what to prepare for the Noche Buena?   When we were given a challenge creating our own Noche Buena Recipe by using Jolly gift basket given to us.

I thought of doing a simple dish ideal for snacks or dinner.

Jolly Cream of Mushroom Meatball Pasta

Ingredients:

1 pack  Al Dente Penne Regate (cooked as per Packaging instruction)

For meatballs:

½ kilo ground pork
½ kilo ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped finely
1 medium carrot, chopped finely
1 bundle celery stalk, chopped finely
½ cup evaporated milk

2 tbsp all purpose flour
1 tsp. pepper
1 tbsp. salt
3 eggs
½ cup oil

For the sauce:

2 tbsp butter
1 can button mushroom (you can use shitake mushroom)
1 can cream of mushroom
½ cup water
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

1. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients for meatballs except oil.
2. Form golf ball size meatballs.
3. Shallow fry meatballs. Set aside.
4. Lower the heat. Using the same oil, add butter. Let it melt.
5. Put mushrooms.
6. Pour cream of mushroom and water.
7. Add salt and pepper to taste.
8. Put fried meatballs.
9. Mix until meatballs are well coated.
10. Mix Pasta with the Meatball Sauce!

[Food] Curry Express

Curry Express is a quaint Indian Restaurant, not the usual fancy Indian resto you get to see on movies.  With the population of Indians coming to Davao to get a good Medical education, its really a good idea to have an Indian restaurant that could cater to these students.  I have always wanted to try different types of food and at the same time I like spicy food. Here are what we had during the food tasting:

Prawn Masala– is an Indian spice mix, for this prawn masala its abit spicy and yet flavorful.

Chicken 65-  is a spicy, deep -fried chicken dish originating from Chennai, India. the chicken is cooked with lots of chilis! Spicy food lovers would love this!- MUST TRY!

Potato Masala– another version of the Masala dish, this time using potatoes.

Chili Chicken-  If your “in” for a little sweet spicy level, go for this chili chicken.

Aloo bonda- Fried Potato Balls that’s crispy outside and quite similar to mashed potatoes inside but with a twist of Indian flavors. MUST TRY!

Dosa w/ Peanut Chutney– Dosa is a fermented crepe made from rice batter and black lentils. There are different chutneys that can be paired with this crepe dessert.

Curry Express is owned and managed by Michelle Golajer, she personally cooks most of the dishes. Dishes are very affordable, they not only serve Curry, Masala, & Dosa’s. They also serve Vegetarian dishes, Flat breads, Yogurt etc. They also accept catering for special occassions.

Our Indian food tasting was a taste adventure for me since most of us, like me, would prefer to eat the usual Filipino, Chinese,Italian or comfort foods we love to have, but trying something new at times is fun. Thanks for having us! 🙂

if you prefer to have a light but still flavorful pasta, I would recommend the creamy malunggay pesto. It is topped with chicken skin, you may add chicken pops for an additional charge of P15.

if you’re looking for something with a twist, try this spicy tinapa pasta, its a mix of traditional smoked-fish. Spicy n salty blend of pasta with a Pinoy twist! Its my fave during the food tasting! 🙂 don’t forget to add the chicken pops!

Salted Egg Pasta w/ Chicken skin & Chicken Pops @ P84 + P15 w/ Chicken Pops

if you like eggs mixed on your pasta, you will love this Salted egg pasta which is made from rich and flavorful salted duck egg cream sauce. Its not too salty, taste just right, still topped with chicken skin and you can still opt to add chicken pops with it.

A few weeks back,  I had the chance to try another new restaurant at Matina Town Square (MTS) area. I rarely go to that area since I live downtown. We would prefer to dine on the downtown or Lanang area. I got to taste new dishes from The Stairwell as we were invited for a food tasting event held at their restaurant. The owner of the resto is a  dentist who just took the Dental Board exam, who also had planned to have her own restaurant, with the help of some friends and relatives, her dream of having a restaurant has came true. Her dental clinic is just a few stores away from the restaurant.

Gastropubs have been one of the latest “in” thing since some restobars are more into drinks and pulutans, Gastropubs usually offer bar drinks, beer matches (pulutans) and good meals for diners who prefer to have lunch/dinner and chill at the same place. It somehow is a 2 in 1 place for diners.

The place is quite small at first glance, but resto has its 2nd floor dining area and you can opt to either dine inside their aircon area or outside for al-fresco feel while chillin’ with friends over good food and live music via MTS Taboan. The resto serves different dishes but with a touch of Filipino. During the event, here are what we had during our gastronomic adventure at the Stairwell:

Our food tasting didn’t just stop there, we were surprised to have the finale dish which you should not want to miss!

[Food] Friday’s Tex-Mex

Last month, TGI Fridays invited us bloggers to taste their newest additions to their menu. Aside from their popular American food, they recently had added something not so American, a hint of Mexican which means a hint of spicy-ness and a bit more flavorful than your usual American food.

Their new additions consist of the Chicken Enchilada, Smoked Salmon Quesadilla, BBQ Pork Tacos & Friday’s Tostada Nachos. During the late-afternoon snack, here are what we had that day:

Shaved Pork Tenderloin in Signature BBQ Sauce, Pepper Jack Cheese, onions, sour cream, pico de gallo & freshly chopped cilantro. Served with Golden Fries. This one is good, its simple and light, especially for people who are staying away from eating rice.

 Smoked Salmon Quesadillas @ P345

Smoked Salmon, Pico de gallo, tart apples & Monterey Jack cheese, served with mango & lemon slaw. For Salmon lovers, you will surely love this, though the smoked salmon is a bit salty, still you get to enjoy this snack since it compliments well with the slaw. I would recommend everyone to try it!

Ranchero Chicken Enchiladas (Must Try!)  @P495

Tender slow-cooked chicken breast mixed with spicy ranchero tomato sauce, melted Monterey Jack cheese rolled in corn tortilla, topped with cheddar & cilantro. Served with chorizo rice. This one is my favorite among the dishes served. I love the flavorful taste of the chicken and the spiciness of the sauce, it somehow compliments with the chorizo rice. A bit heavy but still a Must Try!

Manang’s Chicken: Pinoy style Fried Chicken

A new player on the fastfood restaurant industry that serves chicken similar to the korean fried chicken w/ a twist opened its first branch outside Luzon. While everyone is enjoying the korean style chicken, a Filipino entrepreneur is thinking of doing it in filipino style. It was interesting to know that, we can also do this simple fried chicken a Filipino twist.  Just a quick history how it came about. Manangs chicken was first opened to the public last December 2010 on a weekend food market called Mercato Centrale, it has slowly gained its popularity due to its unique Pinoy chicken flavor & crunch.

As the demand for this unique fried chicken grows, by June 2011, the Gerodias family, who is the owner of Manang’s chicken decided to open its first branch at Ortigas Center Pasig. And as they said the rest is history. Bloggers & media people were invited to an afternoon of food tasting and to meet the company president & CEO Jill Gerodias-Borja.

After a quick history, we were served with their famous Manang’s Chicken. I ordered their extra spicy chicken since I love trying out different spicy food. When my order came, I was excited to take a bite of the chicken since the skin is really crispy outside and flavorful,,the sauce was not that spicy for my level of spicyness, but the sauce really matches the chicken well.  The flavors available are Soy Garlic, Mild Spicy & Extra Spicy.  They are also offering unlimited rice meals, available all-day everyday!

Aside from rice meals, they also had let us tried their other dishes and side dishes. I was really happy to know that they also have this chips & dips, an all-natural freshly-fried potatoes, with different dips available which are the spicy ketchup, garlic mayo and creamy cheese dips. On my must try dip was the spicy ketchup. Its way cheaper than the usual freshly baked chips and it comes in two sizes.

After the delicious dishes we had, we capped it off with desserts!  I was excited to try their Durian Sundae since being a Dabawenya and a fan of Durian, I would say the Durian Sundae (Vanilla cake w/ durian cream+ vanilla ice cream & candy sprinkles) was really good! Its also on my Must Try list. They also have the Red Velvet Sundae (Red Velvet Cake+ Vanilla ice cream & candy sprinkles) and their Chocolate sundae.

Aside from the rice meals, they also offer other food products. It was one fun night as I was enjoying my night with food, friends and fun.  🙂

Giardino Gelato Bloggers Night

Last December 18, Giardino Gelato invited us bloggers for a night of fun & Gelato tasting at their Commissary at the basement Abreeza mall.  We get to experience first hand on how to make Straciatella (vanilla w/ chocolate chips) & Mango sorbet. I was running a bit late from work, that when I  came to the event, I was surprised to see that they were all attentive in listening on how to make gelatos from simple ingredients.They were mixing the ingredients for the Straciatella and was about to put the mixture on this machine to be processed for around 10 minutes, and this is the result for the Straciatella gelato. It was a fun seeing the owner herself sharing us the recipes of the 2 flavors.

After mixing the ingredients for the Mango Sorbet, we were asked to wait for 10-15 minutes as the mixture will be processed using the Carpigiani gelato machine. The Carpigiani is a brand of ice cream machine that is used by the company in producing the Gelato.

After the 2 gelatos that was shared to us, we also get to taste the other unreleased flavors they had prepared for us.

We had Durian, Chocnut, Reese’s Nutrageous, Sesame,Rhum Raisin and Appletini.

Durian– the king of fruits, the taste was good, not too strong yet the durian flavor & smell remains there. Its one of my favorite among the 7 flavors that where given to us. Its a MUST TRY!

Chocnut– Flavored with the filipino favorite choco & nuts. I’m not a fan of it, but its still good for chocnut lovers.

Sesame (MUST TRY!) – is an original Japanese favorite gelato. I was curious and decided to try this. I love the flavor and aroma of sesame, didn’t know that sesame seeds or anything from the sesame seeds can be made into gelato.Uusally, Japanese restos would usually offer green tea ice cream and not this Sesame Gelato. Its something unique for me.

Reese’s Nutrageous- Reese’s  to the maximum level since its mixed with whole nuts, caramel, chocolate and Reese’s peanut butter. Its definitely a chocoholic’s dream gelato! My 3rd fave flavor!

Rhum Raisin – Italian’s call this Malaga. Gelato that has rhum.The flavor of rhum is just a bit strong, but worry not since they only use less than a percent of rhum. This is ideal for the people who wants something unique.

Appletini- Apple sobret with a touch of vodka, ideal for people who are into cokctail drinks.

I would recommend my three personal favorites which are the Sesame, Durian and Reese’s Nutrageous. I would like to thank Giardino Gelato for the wonderful night of gelato tasting with bloggers. Excited to taste my fave gelatos again soon! 😀
